What Is An Electric Cooker?

An electric cooktop is a name for the professional type of appliance installed in professional kitchens. These appliances typically have multiple energy settings that allow them to be used for almost any cooking process. The most popular electric cooktops are the open-top cooktop and the closed-top cooktop (also known as a flat top).

An electric cooker is an electric appliance that can be attached to any kind of electric cooktop. They essentially use the same technology. The only difference is that they are much more compact and take up much less space on your counter. Electric cookers are typically hand-washable, meaning you can quickly and easily wipe down your device with a cloth or paper towel rather than scrubbing it for hours like a traditional pot set on the stove.

How To Cook Rice In An Electric Cooker

1. Rinse The Rice In A Fine Mesh Strainer

Rice should always be rinsed before being cooked. By rinsing your rice, you will wash away excess starch and dirt. Here, we use a fine mesh strainer, but you can also use a colander.

While you don’t have to rinse every single type of rice (for example, if the rice is labeled “pre-washed” or “no-rinse”), it is always best to err on the side of caution. 

2. Add The Rinsed Rice To The Electric Cooker

Add the rice to the electric cooker. It’s best to add a little less rice than you want to end up with, as it may expand during cooking.

For 4 cups of dry rice, I usually add 3½ cups of water. Add Water and Close the Lid

3. Set Your Electric Cooker To “Rice” Setting

Most electric cookers will have a setting for white rice or brown rice. Don’t be fooled; your cooker still needs to be set on the “Rice” setting (this varies from model to model). Set yours accordingly.

Start the cook cycle. This will start the cooking process in your electric cooker. It typically takes 6 minutes at high pressure for brown rice, 8 minutes for white rice, or 9 minutes for long-grain brown or wild rice.

While cooking, occasionally stir your grains to prevent sticking and burning. This is especially important if you’re using brown rice, as it is more likely to stick together during cooking. Once cooked, turn off the electric cooker and let it stand for 3-5 minutes before removing the lid.

4. When The Timer Goes Off, Remove The Pot From The Cooker Using Oven Mitts Or A Kitchen Towel – Be Careful, It’ll Be Hot!

Turn off your electric cooker and let it stand for five more minutes before opening. Remember to use caution when removing your lid, as hot steam will escape. When the timer goes off, remove the pot from the cooker using oven mitts or a kitchen towel – be careful, it’ll be hot!

5. Fluff The Cooked Rice With A Fork And Serve Immediately

Once the lid is removed, fluff the cooked rice with a fork. This will help separate the grains of rice and leave them fluffy. Serve and enjoy!
